When in a safe and secure environment, people with learning disabilities are better able to develop the skills they need for increasingly independent living. We create that environment for them to thrive and change their lives.

Supported living is the ideal option for people with a variety of learning disabilities and related conditions, and is perfect for those ‘stepping down’ from residential care and making the transition to independent living in the community.

We work with the individual, their family and their circle of support to agree a tailored package of care. This may include 24-hour support, sleep-in cover or even monitoring through assistive technology.

With our help, they continue to benefit from a traditional family home and community interaction, with the security of knowing expert help is on hand 24/7. Family and carers enjoy the peace of mind that their loved one is close by in a happy, safe environment.

We also recently opened a new £800,000 supported living development in Hartlepool. The facility has five, two-bedroom apartments and a further single bedroom apartment, along with a ground floor drop-in centre and 24-hour staff. Close to shops and local amenities, the centre provides a great halfway step for young people on their journey to independent living.

Children and adults with complex learning disabilities are not lucky enough to have the choice or opportunities many of us take for granted. From deciding where and who to live with, to how they spend their time, they require help to function each day.

Our ‘Pathways’ programme supports them in living full, active and independent lives on their terms through the following services:

  • Emergency and crisis support
  • Travel training
  • Employment & education
  • Outreach services
  • Supported living services
  • Personal care

We believe that all people with a learning disability should:

  • Have access to meaningful daytime activities, including support to get a job
  • Be able to choose the housing that’s right for them and be supported to live as independently as possible
  • Have equal access to sport and leisure opportunities
  • Be able to use accessible transport
  • Have the right to a properly funded individual budget if they want one
  • Have the support to enjoy full, active and meaningful lives with maximum choice and control at all times
