We all know the friendly faces that make Springfield feel like home, and today, we’d love to shine a spotlight on one of our incredible team members, our Deputy Home Manager. Jamie recently sat down with us to share a bit about her journey, what drives her and what makes her role so special.
It’s clear from talking to her that her role is incredibly varied. “My role within the care home is to support all staff from housekeeping, care staff, kitchen, seniors and the manager,” she shared. “I am responsible for all medication in the building and ensure senior staff are compliant. I support staff through training and give guidance on additional training. I like to check all staff are happy and are managing there workload. I will step into each role and support where needed as I have worked in each department.” It’s this hands-on approach that truly makes a difference, ensuring every part of our home runs smoothly.
Her journey into care is a testament to finding where you belong. “I fell into care by accident,” she explained. “The whole of England had gone into the second lockdown, I decided I could not be home again as I was managing bars in Leeds and I could feel myself becoming lost. I applied for a job in home care thinking it would be a short term fix and quickly realised it was something I loved doing.” From there, she moved to Springfield four years ago and has seen a rapid rise through the ranks from Night Carer to Deputy, saying, “I would like to continue my career with Springfield and progress to management.” It’s inspiring to see such dedication.
When asked about the most rewarding part of her job, her answer perfectly captured the heart of Springfield. “The most rewarding part of my job at the care home is building meaningful relationships with the residents—getting to know their life stories, seeing their personalities shine, and knowing I can make their day a little brighter.” She added, “Being able to support them with dignity, comfort, and compassion, and seeing the positive difference that care and kindness can make, is incredibly fulfilling.”
And what keeps her looking forward to each shift? “I absolutely enjoy every single aspect of my job, it is not just one singular thing it is a multitude of the little things,” she said. “I like the challenges, the learning, the support I can give staff, the help I can give residents, the small thank you. Anything I can do to make even the smallest difference to make someone’s day lighter.”
