In our newest instalment of our Meet the Team series, we are putting a spotlight on Sarah Collinson, our dedicated Live-In Service Manager. With a career in the sector spanning 14 years, Sarah guides us through her care journey and why she is so passionate about going above and beyond for the people she supports.

What first attracted you to begin a career in care?
I started working in care 14 years ago and I have always been drawn to roles where I can make a positive difference. Working in care gives me the opportunity to support people in a meaningful way, allowing them to maintain their independence and dignity whilst building genuine relationships.
Describe how your career has progressed in the sector to get you where you are today?
My first role in the industry was very much hands-on, working in the local community as a domiciliary carer. This provided me with a strong foundation and real understanding of the people we support. Overtime, I have progressed to on call, community supervisor, and now my current role as Live-In Service Manager. Each role has led to more responsibility, developed my skills and knowledge, and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Describe your day-to-day and wide duties of your job role?
I manage the Live-In service which means I ensure everything runs smoothly for both the carers and the individuals they support. My day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating care packages, supporting carers, liaising with families and professionals, and ensuring we maintain a high standard of care with good governance. My role also sees me focus on problem solving, quality assurance and continuously improving the service.
What is the most rewarding part of your role at Springfield?
The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the positive impact we have on people’s lives. Whether it’s helping someone stay in their own home, facilitating an individual’s discharge home for end-of-life care or supporting families through challenging times, knowing we make a real difference is incredibly fulfilling.
How has the landscape of care changed since you first started your career?
Care has become much more person-centred, with a stronger focus on individuality and independence. There has also been an increased recognition of the importance of mental wellbeing alongside physical health, for both staff and the individuals they care for.
Technology and communication have also greatly improved too, helping us deliver more efficient and responsive support.
What advice would you give someone who may be interested in pursuing a similar role within the care sector?
I would say you have to be patient, compassionate and open to learning. The care sector can be increasingly challenging, but it is also very rewarding. Being able to gain hands-on experience is invaluable as is building strong communication skills. But most importantly, you need to have a genuine passion for helping others.
What are you most excited about regarding the future of Springfield Healthcare?
I’m really excited to see how the organisation continues to grow and develop. The landscape of care has changed so much recently, and it’s exciting to see the Live-In Care service grow and develop alongside it. As we maintain our strong values and person-centred approach, there is a real focus on innovation and quality. It’s great to be part of a team that is always looking to improve and expand its service.
When you aren’t at work, how do you like to spend your time?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, particularly with my 3 children who keep me busy. I also enjoy relaxing and recharging with friends, whether that’s a forest walk with a picnic or topping up my tan on a warm beach! I also enjoy watching live sports such as rugby league and attending music gigs, which helps me maintain a good work-life balance.
What unique skills and experiences do you bring to the Springfield team?
I bring a combination of hands-on care experience and organisational skills which help me understand both the day-to-day realities of care and the bigger picture of running a service. I am confident in supporting both clients and carers to get the best outcomes.
I would also say I bring a positive attitude and a good sense of humour. In a role like this, being able to stay upbeat and approachable really helps to create a supportive environment for the team and the people we care for.
Sarah’s combination of hands-on experience and passion for making a difference makes her a vital member of the team here at Springfield. Her enthusiasm for supporting others means they can live their lives filled with independence and dignity, whilst receiving the highest standard of care.
