When Jill retired from nursing many years ago, she probably assumed that she would not work in the care sector again. But after a few years away, Jill realised that she missed the meaningful connections that can be made when you care for others.
“I missed working with people so a role in the caring profession seemed a good fit,” Jill shared. After a chat with a member of the Springfield team, Jill felt inspired to apply for a role at our North Yorkshire branch, citing working with our lovely customers as a key factor in her returning to the sector.

Feeling Supported from Day One
Transitioning into a new role can feel overwhelming, but Jill quickly acclimatised to her new surroundings thanks to hands-on training and a welcoming team. While modules like Moving and Handling and Administration of Medicine provided Jill with a strong foundation, it was the shadowing and the support of her managers Claire and Jemma that made all the difference.
“The team support of Claire and Jemma is great,” Jill shared. “They’re always busy but they help so very much.”
Making a Difference
Working as a Bank carer in North Yorkshire, Jill enjoys a varied routine, visiting several clients a day to undertake daily tasks that make their life a little easier and bearable.
“Sometimes I am the only person that they will see all day, and I feel honoured to be welcomed into their environment,” Jill explained. Her favourite moments often come from support calls, where she accompanies clients out into the local community. Whether it is a coffee in a garden centre or a shopping trip to Primark, Jill ensures that everyone under her care can live fulfilled and enjoyable lives. “Support calls are just as important as domiciliary calls as some of our customers have no family or friends to take them out.”
Receiving Positive Feedback
In just a few short months, Jill has received glowing feedback from the people she supports. These wonderful words speak volumes about Jill’s dedication and clearly demonstrate the value of building meaningful and trusting relationships in her role.
“It was totally unexpected but so lovely to hear,” Jill shared. “I feel proud that some of my clients have taken the time to share that with the team. All carers are in a valuable position to make a difference.”
