Springfield Healthcare Goes the Extra Mile for customer’s 70th Birthday Surprise

Springfield Healthcare’s Pathways to Independence service in Hartlepool recently marked a truly special occasion for Paul Samuels, a much-loved customer and member of the community, whose 70th birthday was celebrated with an unforgettable, personalised surprise straight from his favourite football club – Hartlepool United.

Paul is a devoted season ticket holder and avid supporter of the Pools, faithfully attending every match. Knowing his passion, his primary support worker, Ayesha, worked hard to arrange a surprise that perfectly matched his lifelong interest.

The day’s festivities were planned around a special gathering and meal out with Paul’s support network—including Ayesha, his social worker, office staff member Deb and his good friend Stephen. However, the real highlight was the moment Ayesha contacted Hartlepool United to arrange for the club mascot to make a special appearance at his celebration!

The surprise was a massive success. Paul was absolutely thrilled, beaming as he received a birthday card signed by the team and an incredibly generous gift: the mascot’s own match-worn shirt from the previous season!

“Ayesha put plans in place to make it a very special day for him, and what a day it was,” commented Rachael Oliver, Registered Manager at Pathways to Independence. “Seeing Paul’s face light up at the sight of the mascot and the official club shirt was a testament to the effort and personalised care that our team strives to provide.”
