Springfield’s September Fundraising Challenge

At Springfield Healthcare, providing compassionate, high-quality care is at the heart of everything we do. As we work closely with individuals and families navigating long term health challenges, we know firsthand how vital specialised support and care can be.

This September, our team is coming together to take on a month-long fundraising push in support of an amazing charity: the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).

Why We’re Supporting the Spinal Injuries Association

Did you know that every 2 hours, someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury?

In an instant, a sudden injury can alter a person’s life forever, bringing with it physical, emotional and practical challenges. The Spinal Injuries Association works tirelessly to ensure that no one has to navigate this journey alone.

SIA provides vital services, including:

Practical Support – Life with a spinal cord injury can change many aspects of your life including your career, relationships, and your home life. That’s why the SIA has a team of support coordinators that are on hand to support newly injured people even before hospital discharge. They are able to advise on employment, travel, accessibility, housing, finances, and more, ensuring you are never alone after sustaining a life-changing injury.

Clinical Support – SIA’s team includes nurse and an occupational therapist to ensure that every person with a spinal cord injury is able to receive the care they deserve. They are able to advise people with SCI and their loved ones on clinical care, such as bowel and bladder management and skin care. The team also assists in creating essential documents, like the potentially life-saving emergency care plans.

Emotional Support – Sustaining a spinal cord injury can have a huge psychological toll, with half of the people living with SCI saying they have experienced mental health problems according to a study by the SIA. The SIA offers all those in the spinal cord injury community free talking therapies with specialist counselling service run people who live with spinal cord injuries.

As a healthcare provider, SIA’s mission is incredibly close to our hearts, and we want to do our part to ensure their life-changing services remain available to everyone who needs them.

What Our Team is Doing

Throughout September, staff from across all our branches will be lacing up their trainers, putting on their walking shoes, and hopping on their bikes in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association. As a team, we will be testing ourselves and aiming to walk, run, and cycle as far as they can throughout September.

If it’s a daily walk during our lunch breaks, hitting weekly step goals on shift or tackling weekend cycling trips and runs, every single step counts and will make a huge difference to supporting the SIA’s amazing work.
