A team of community carers from Springfield Healthcare in South Tyneside have chosen to give back in the true spirit of Christmas by donating £150 to Pawz for Thought, a Sunderland–based animal rescue charity.
The money was originally provided by Springfield Healthcare to purchase staff gifts, but the team collectively decided that the most meaningful gift this year would be to help local animals in need.
With the rise in cost of living resulting in more pets being abandoned or surrendered, the group wanted to ensure that animals spending Christmas in a shelter receive warm blankets, food, and vital care.
Branch manager at Springfield Healthcare in South Tyneside said, “We all love animals and most of us have our own pet’s. It’s really sad to see how much the cost of living has affected local rescue centres. I suggested using our staff gift fund to help make sure a pet in the shelter gets a warm meal and a cosy blanket on Christmas Day — and the whole team agreed right away. It feels good to give something back to our community.”
Pawz for Thought rescues abandoned and injured animals from across the region, providing treatment, shelter, and rehoming services. The charity relies heavily on donations and volunteer support throughout the year.
The donation will directly support the charity’s Christmas care provision, ensuring that animals in their shelter receive essential supplies throughout the festive season.
